Overtime

Did you know that on-call pay for nurses was started over 30yrs ago? For those of you who do not know, on call pay is when I get called early in the morning and told I am not working but put on call. (Excuse my run-on sentence.) I have to stay near home, so that if I get called in to work I can be there as quickly as possible. Guess what I get paid? Guess!?! It's $2 an hour. So a total of $24 dollars a day, and it's taxed. The amount hasn't been adjusted since its in-statement. So I can't really leave home ALL day and I get paid $24. I mean seriously!

My morning started at 0500 when I woke up to get ready for work (OT shift). At 0515, work called to let me know I was on call. I went back to bed. It probably took me about 30mins to get to sleep, and then another call at 0635. They needed me to come in for an admission. Okay, no big deal I got to lay in a little while longer. TEN minutes later, they called back. They needed me to still be on call. Well I was already dressed, and John was in the kitchen making coffee and breakfast. So no going back to bed for us!

So here I sit waiting on a call, that probably will not come for my $24 dollars. I guess I shouldn't complain, it's more than I would have made if I had not signed up for OT at all.

John, of course, is working today. He left about 0745. We had cheese toast and coffee for breakfast. Since we were both up early, it was nice to sit there and drink our coffee together! We don't get to do that much. It seems like every weekend we are busy. Por ejemple: This past weekend we spent the night with KatyKJ Friday night and then headed straight into town for errands Saturday. This Saturday I'm working. Next Saturday we have a wedding in Morehead and are driving down that morning. See? No relaxing coffee mornings for us!

Hope you enjoy the pic of me in my new scrubs! And as John would say, Peace and Love Y'all ;)
